The Moroccan Government Plans to Extend the Lockdown

The Moroccan government plans to extend the lockdown that applies in the country because of the coronavirus again since March 20.

Initially, the end of the lockdown was planned for June 10. Still, Prime Minister Saad Eddine al-Othmani’s government would announce this week that the state of emergency will remain in place until the end of the month, as a precaution.

It will be the last extension, according to authorities consulted by Moroccan media. They say the prime minister will officially announce June 10.

The strict lockdown detains many people, including many Dutch people, against their will in Morocco because travel is virtually impossible.

Tens of thousands of Moroccans elsewhere have not been able to return home since March. That the government still holds on to the state of emergency is partly due to a new outbreak at a party in Marrakesh.

According to the authorities, it shows that the virus can reappear at any time. There are also practical problems with the proposed virus control using tests.

The call to companies that are active again to have staff tested en masse would not have been followed up for various reasons.
