US President Donald Trump has hinted at significant cuts in subsidies that his former ally, Elon Musk, is benefiting from.
Musk was a major financier of Trump’s election campaign and led the DOGE task force for government spending cuts. Trump suggests that the same institution should cut government money for Musk’s companies, SpaceX and Tesla.
“Elon probably gets more subsidies than anyone else, and without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close down and go home to South Africa. No more rocket launches, satellites, or electric car production, and our country would save a fortune.
Maybe DOGE should take a good look at this?”, Trump wrote on his platform, Truth Social.
Musk and Trump openly argued last month, with the tech billionaire criticising a new budget law that is raising the government deficit considerably. The Tesla boss is now suggesting that a new political party should be formed in the US.
