Greenpeace Boss Becomes Climate Envoy to Germany

The director of the international environmental organization Greenpeace, the American Jennifer Morgan, becomes the German government’s special envoy for climate protection.

She will give up her position in Amsterdam at the end of February for the new Ministry of Foreign Affairs position in Berlin, where she already lives.

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock calls Morgan as a special representative a “dream occupation” and an “important signal” for international climate protection.

Morgan is an experienced climate expert with a good international network. She speaks fluent German. According to Greenpeace, she has attended every international climate conference since the first in Berlin in 1995.

Several other countries already have such a climate envoy, such as the Netherlands with Jaime de Bourbon de Parme. Last year, John Kerry became the first U.S. Special Representative on Climate.
