UN Count on 200,000 Refugees From Ethiopia

The United Nations is anticipating 200,000 refugees fleeing from the rebellious Tigray region of Ethiopia to neighbouring Sudan in the coming months.

The UN refugee agency announced on Friday that it is preparing for that flow.

The Ethiopian army is fighting in the region against the local authorities who have rebelled.

Various UN organizations have currently arranged shelter for 20,000 people, but more than 30,000 displaced persons have already arrived in Sudan.

The UN called on the parties on Friday for a temporary ceasefire so that humanitarian aid can be provided. The organization is looking for around 200 million euros to cover the costs of aid in the region.
