Ukrainian Hacker Behind Major Cyber Attack on It Company Extradited to US

A Ukrainian hacker was extradited from Poland to the United States and appeared before a judge in the state of Texas on Wednesday. That’s what the Justice Department said.

Jaroslav Vasinski, 22, aka “Robotnik”, is accused of computer fraud and money laundering in the US. He is said to have been behind the major cyber attack on the American IT company Kaseya in July.

The Ukrainian was arrested in Poland on October 8 at the request of the Americans. This happened in the context of a worldwide campaign against the Russian-language hacker collective REvil, which was involved with ransomware.

The attack on Kaseya on July 2 affected one million customers of the IT company. The Swedish supermarket chain Coop stores even had to keep their doors closed for several days.

In January, Russia announced that it had dismantled the REvil group at the request of the Americans. However, Russia is often accused of being a haven for cybercriminals.
