Russian prosecutors on Monday in a Moscow court demanded six years’ imprisonment against prominent film and theatre director Kirill Serebrennikov for embezzlement.
That reported the Russian news agency RIA.
The prosecution of Serebrennikov, an award-winning director, sparked outrage among the country’s liberal cultural elite, who says the director is being prosecuted for his work.
Serebrennikov, artistic director of the avant-garde Gogol Center theatre in Moscow since 2012, contradicts all charges.
The 50-year-old director was arrested at the time and charged with embezzlement of converted nearly one million pounds of public money intended for a theatre project.
