IOC Denies the News That Games Cancellation is Imminent

On Friday, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) denied in a statement that the Japanese government decided the scenes to refrain from organizing the Olympic Games.

That was claimed earlier in the day by the English newspaper The Times.

Today, the news is circulating that the Japanese government has decided that the Games should be cancelled. That is absolutely not true,” said the IOC. “At a meeting in July last year, it was decided that the Games will start on July 23 of this year.

All parties involved will continue to work to ensure that the Games are successful and safe this year.”

The Times relied on an anonymous source within the Japanese government. “The Tokyo Olympics are doomed. The goal now is to find a way to announce the cancellation without losing face and leave open the possibility that Tokyo could host it at a later date,” the source had noted.

“Nobody wants to be the first to say that, but the consensus is that it is too difficult. Personally, I don’t think it’s going to happen.”
