Indonesia Ceases to Search for Victims of Air Crash

Indonesia stops searching for victims of the recent plane crash with 62 dead. The search for the second black box of Sriwijaya Air’s Boeing 737-500 continues.

 

The plane crashed into the Java Sea on January 9, minutes after taking off from Jakarta. Rescue workers have since recovered 324 bags of body parts and 120 aircraft parts, the rescue chief said.

Divers found one of the two black boxes after the crash. It concerned the flight data recorder, with information from equipment from the crashed aircraft.

The cockpit voice recorder with sounds from the cockpit is still missing.

The SJ 182 disaster was the deadliest plane crash in the country since 2018 when a Lion Air Boeing 737 MAX crashed in the Java Sea. All 189 people on board were killed.
