Canada’s State Department has been the victim of a cyberattack for more than a week. Some services are still not working.
The attack happened last Wednesday, but a week later, not everything has been recovered. “Critical services are working, but some internet-based services are currently not working,” the government said in a statement, Reuters said.
Other government services are currently still affected. It is unknown who is behind the attack. But Reuters notes that the attack came just before Canada advised critical infrastructure operators to strengthen their security against attacks from the Russian government.
Recently, the Belgian government, specifically Defence, also fell victim to a cyber attack. In mid-December, hackers gained entry through the vulnerability in Log4j. As a result, the army’s external mail traffic was shut down for more than four weeks.
