More Than 1,000 Killed in Protests Since Myanmar Coup

At least 1,006 people have been killed in protests against the military coup in Myanmar. An organization for political prisoners in Myanmar (AAPP) says military personnel have killed these people since the February 1 coup.

According to the organization, 7,338 people have been arrested since the coup, mainly for participating in large-scale protests against the junta. However, the army’s top says the actual death toll is lower and complies with all international rules.

The army’s top took power in the country on February 1 from the democratically elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi. However, in the elections at the end of last year, the army party had lost a lot, and according to the military, there was a fraud.

The demonstrations started soon after the coup. The army often cracks down on the protests and does not shy away from shooting at demonstrators. Human rights activists say there are crimes against humanity.
