Turkish President Erdogan says he will call the leaders of Ukraine and Russia within days to persuade them to come to Turkey to discuss an end to the war in Ukraine.
He has often called his colleagues Vladimir Putin (Russia) and Volodymyr Zelensky (Ukraine). Previously, ministers and delegations from the belligerent countries met in Turkey.
Turkey has maritime borders with both countries in the Black Sea and maintains good relations with Kyiv and Moscow. However, the Turkish president says he is not without hope.
“We hope that the process will lead to new consultations in Istanbul and then to consultations at the presidential level.”
