Snapchat’s parent company would no longer be working on a new version of the Pixy drone, which was meant to make selfies easier. The current model will remain for sale for a while.
The Pixy is a small drone that you can launch into the air from the palm of your hand. The device, for sale in the US for about 230 dollars, has as its main function to take selfies and send video images directly to the Snapchat app.
The drone came on the market four months ago and seemed quite successful in doing so. The waiting time for delivery was already several months. However, Evan Spiegel, CEO of Snap, would not plan to continue working on a second version of the device. The current version is still for sale on the website.
Snap has been trying to expand its portfolio as a photo app for young people with hardware for some time. The company previously played with ‘photo booths’ and also released several versions of its ‘Spectacles,’ a pair of glasses with a built-in camera.
