Senator Bernie Sanders Remains in an Election Race

Senator Bernie Sanders, who has suffered a series of defeats in the Democratic primaries, remains in the election race but speaks with his supporters about “how the campaign is doing”.

This is what his campaign manager Faiz Shakir said.

Sanders is the big loser in the last three Tuesdays of the primaries. His rival ex-vice president Joe Biden won again in the voting states on Tuesday.

Republican President Trump tweeted on Wednesday – not for the first time – that Sanders has already given up and the Democratic Party is happy to get rid of him.

Sanders lost to Biden on Tuesday in the Florida, Illinois and Arizona primaries. It is now in the lead. Even some of Sanders ‘prominent supporters publicly acknowledge that their favourite seems to have little chance of becoming the Democrats’ official presidential candidate.

Biden (77) and Sanders (78) are the only two serious candidates who still participate in the primaries of this party. Most other candidates have suspended their campaigns after disappointing results.

Former rivals such as Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, Michael Bloomberg and Amy Klobuchar have expressed their support for Biden. Supporters of the former vice president think Sanders is too left to drive Donald Trump out of the White House.

The political struggle has now been eclipsed by the outbreak of the coronavirus. The primaries in Louisiana, Georgia and Ohio have already been postponed due to the epidemic.
