Pfizer and BioNTech expect to produce significantly more vaccines this year than they previously predicted.
“At the moment, we have set ourselves to the production of 2.5 billion doses, but in principle, there is room for a further increase,” said Ugur Sahin, CEO of Germany’s BioNTech.
The companies had previously indicated that they could produce about 2 billion doses of their vaccine this year.
People need two doses to be fully protected, so in principle, a billion people can be vaccinated with such a supply.
