Nobel Peace Prize Winner: Hunger Pandemic Worse Than Corona

A “hunger pandemic” could be worse than Covid-19. The head of the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) warned about this on Thursday after receiving the Nobel Peace Prize.

About 270 million people worldwide, equal to the combined population of Germany, the United Kingdom, France and Italy, are on the verge of starvation, WFP’s David Beasley said at the ceremony held online.

The WFP, which coordinated medical logistics during the coronavirus pandemic, was named the winner of the 2020 award in October.

“With so many wars, climate change, the use of hunger as a political and military weapon, and a global health pandemic making all of this exponentially worse, 270 million people are marching to starvation,” Beasley said.
