Most Borders in Europe Will Reopen From June 15

Border controls between most European countries will be lifted from June 15. This emerged on Friday after video consultations between the EU’s interior ministers.

Spain will follow later; Madrid is still sticking to July 1.

EU Commissioner Ylva Johansson (Home Affairs) hopes that the end will make all checks of June.

She expressed the hope that the Schengen zone, which allows free travel, will function as before no later than the end of this month.

The health situation allows it, but some Member States are still reluctant.

Many Member States introduced controls in March and closed their borders to non-essential travel.

Restrictions have already eased in many places. Many countries have previously given June 15 as the date for opening the borders.
