Chancellor Merkel has stressed after the usual crisis deliberation about the consequences of the new coronavirus that new stricter measures are now unnecessary.
She is hopeful because the increase in the number of illnesses is levelling off.
Merkel said she is looking at the day-to-day lockdown issue when asked if the measures could still apply during the summer vacations.
Merkel is under enormous pressure, including from party members, to ease the lockdown in the interest of the economy.
One of the loudest messengers of that line is the prime minister of the neighbouring state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Armin Lachat. He is a party member of Merkel.
