In the UK, a person died of the coronavirus for the first time, the authorities said Thursday. This concerns an elderly patient with “underlying health problems”.
The patient was treated in a hospital in Reading, west of London.
“We believe that the patient has contracted the virus in the UK. An investigation into his contacts has therefore been initiated,” said British head of medical service, Chris Whitty.
The hospital in Reading has also explained.
“The patient has formerly been in and out of the hospital for motives other than the coronavirus, but on this occasion, he was admitted after being tested positive for coronavirus.”
