EU Comes This Week With Competition Complaint Against Apple

The European Commission will be making formal allegations against Apple this week. The business newspaper Financial Times reports this based on insiders.

Streaming service Spotify accused the maker of iPhones of abuse of power within its App Store two years ago. Services such as Spotify have to hand over part of the turnover to Apple within the App Store.

According to the Swedish music service, Apple is harming competitors of its own Apple Music within the app store by keeping rivals artificially expensive. For example, the American concern refused to point out to users that there are cheaper ways to download Spotify outside its own App Store.

Commissioner Margrethe Vestager announced the competition investigation into Apple in June. According to FT, the study results could be released at the end of the week, but sources warn that the schedule could still be delayed. Apple has always insisted on obeying the law.
