Tennis player Novak Djokovic has to rest for a while to recover from his stomach injury.
“I had a new MRI scan on Monday, and the damage is a bit bigger than I thought,” said the Australian Open winner a day after his victory over the Russian Daniil Medvedev in the final of the tournament in Melbourne.
“It’s not too bad, judging by what the doctor said, but the muscle tear has gotten bigger, and I will have to take the time to recover,” said the Serbian number 1 in the world, who won his eighteenth grand slam title.
He did not mention a period, so it is not clear when he will return to the track.
The 33-year-old Djokovic suffered a muscle tear in his third-round match against the American Taylor Fritz. He played on and eventually won in five sets. Despite the injury, he reached the final again and won the tournament for the ninth time.
