Moscow has embarked on its strictest lockdown in more than a year. Daily life is partly restricted because there are more and more corona infections, and hospitals are therefore dealing with a large influx of corona patients.
Until at least November 7, only essential shops such as supermarkets and pharmacies can open their doors. In addition, schools and nurseries are closed.
Residents can go outside, which was not allowed during the lockdown in the summer of 2020. The measures come shortly before all of working Russia is sent on paid leave for a week from October 30.
The number of infections in Russia has been rising since September and has led to high death rates. On Thursday, with 1159 new corona deaths, it was again a daily record. More than 40,000 new infections were also reported within 24 hours for the first time.
Nearly 8,500 of these were from Moscow. About one in three Russians is fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
