Merkel Expects to have 10,000 People Removed from Afghanistan

German Chancellor Angela Merkel thinks Germany should get 10,000 people out of Afghanistan, sources from her CDU party say.

These would include human rights activists, lawyers and other people at risk now that the Taliban are back in power.

The chancellor also wants Germany to support neighbouring countries of Afghanistan to receive refugees in the best possible way. Therefore, the Germans are currently evacuating the embassy personnel. The first forty employees would have gone on an American flight to the Qatari Doha and landed.

“This subject will occupy us for a long time,” Merkel said. “These are painful hours for Afghanistan.”

According to the sources, she thinks that domestic American politics partly cause the situation in Afghanistan. Donald Trump announced the withdrawal of troops when he was president, and his successor Joe Biden has pushed through the plan.

Ending the longest American war was an important point for the presidents.
