Record Number of Corona Infections in India for the Fifth Day in A Row

A worldwide record number of corona infections was registered in India on Monday for the fifth day in a row.

Also, the number of deaths from the coronavirus has never been higher in the country, the local health ministry reports.

Over the past 24 hours, 352,991 residents of India tested positive for Covid-19. In total, more than 17 million people have already been tested positive in the Asian country. The number of deaths increased by 2,812 to 195,123.

According to critics, authorities were insufficiently prepared for the second wave of corona infections due to a mutated variant of the virus and insufficient anticipation when the daily number of infections dipped below 10,000 several times in February.

Major religious and political gatherings were held. The virus is now spreading rapidly, resulting in overloaded hospitals.

The European Union and the United Kingdom pledged rapid aid to India on Sunday. To initiate aid, the European Commission (EC) has activated the so-called civil protection mechanism. At the government’s request in Delhi, the EC wants to bring oxygen and medicines to India as soon as possible.
