No Marriage Between Arm and Samsung

No Marriage Between Arm and Samsung

The suggestion that Arm would be (partly) taken over by Samsung disappears again. The two talk about a collaboration but not an investment.

The CEO of Softbank, owner of British chip developer Arm, went to Seoul last week for talks with Samsung Electronics. That sparked speculation about a possible takeover, whether or not in part, of Arm by Samsung.

But according to local media, that meeting mainly talked about long-term cooperation between the two, and there was no request from Arm to let Samsung invest. It remains a strategic alliance.

Softbank had planned to sell the company to Nvidia in 2020 but got into opposition from regulators and competitors who also partner with Arm. Since then, the company has been looking for options for the business. An IPO is also on the table.
