Iran will Step Up its Nuclear Program again if US Withdraws from the Agreement

Iran will “intensively” resume enrichment of uranium if Washington breaks the agreement on Iran’s nuclear program. That is what the Iranian Foreign Minister, Javad Zarif, says to Vital News.

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, had threatened to withdraw from the nuclear agreement with Iran. According to Javad Zarif, the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs, the result would soon be clear.

The minister told journalists in New York that Iran does not intend to develop an atomic bomb. But the ‘probable’ response from Tehran to an American withdrawal would be a resumption of the production of enriched uranium. That substance is needed to develop an atomic bomb.

Donald Trump gave his European allies 12 May as a deadline to reach an agreement with Iran and to “eliminate the terrible gaps” from the agreement. If no way is found by then to tighten the 2015 agreement, Trump threatens to reintroduce sanctions against Tehran and withdraw from the agreement. That agreement, which Trump finds too lenient, must prevent Iran from acquiring an atomic bomb.

“America should never have feared Iran producing an atomic bomb, but we will continue the enrichment of uranium intensively if President Trump officially withdraws from the agreement,” Zarif said.
