Former New York Mayor Giuliani Joins Legal Team Trump. The conservative ex-mayor of New York Rudy Giuliani has joined the legal team of President Donald Trump. In his own words, he does so to quickly put an end to the FBI investigation led by special prosecutor Robert Mueller to Russian interference during the US presidential elections in 2016.
The FOX News Point says, Jay Sekulow, one of Trump’s lawyers, announced on Thursday that Giuliani, together with the two former federal prosecutors who run a law firm in Florida, would from now on be part of the president’s legal team.
“Rudy is great,” Trump is quoted in Sekulow’s communication. “He has been my friend for a longtime and wanted to resolve this matter quickly in the interests of the country.”
In a discussion with The Washington Post, Giuliani says he is doing this “because I hope we can negotiate an end” with the investigation into Russian interference. He says he also acts “in the interests of the country and because I have great respect for the president and Bob Mueller.”
Rudolph ‘Rudy’ Giuliani was mayor of New York from 1994 to 2001. At the presidential election in 2008, he was a candidate for the Republican nomination, but he stepped out of the race to support his challenger John McCain, who eventually lost against the Democrat Barack Obama.
In the runup to the 2016 elections, he expressed his support for Trump. After his election his name circulated for various posts in the government, including that of foreign minister, but in the end, he was not elected.
