Five Dead in Russian Hotel that is Flooded Due to Break in Hot Water Pipe

In Perm, a city in the east of the European part of Russia, at least five people have died because of a break in the hot water pipe of a hotel.

The pipe broke through in the middle of the night, after which large parts of a basement where people slept were placed under hot water.

The leak occurred in the basement of an apartment building that served as a hotel.

People were surprised in their sleep when the hot water flooded the basement. At least five people, including a child, died. Three others were taken to the hospital with burns.

A criminal investigation has been started to check whether the safety regulations have been complied with.

The fact that the hotel was located in the basement, where all the pipes of the building also ran, raises questions in itself.
