The first flight with the Boeing 737 MAX in which passengers other than supervisors or aviation personnel took part is a fact.
An aircraft of the troubled aircraft type, which was banned from flying for more than a year and a half due to security concerns, has completed a 45-minute flight in the United States with 87 journalists on board.
American Airlines’ flight between Dallas in Texas and Tulsa in Oklahoma came two weeks after the US aviation authority gave FAA permission to fly the 737 MAX again. That had been banned since March 2019, because two fatal crashes with the MAX had happened within a short period of time.
In those disasters with flights of the Indonesian Lion Air and Ethiopian Airlines, 346 people were killed.
After investigation, it turned out that the disasters were caused by a failing safety system, which kept pushing the nose of the aircraft down unintentionally.
In the aftermath of the plane crashes, regulator FAA was also sharply criticized, because the authority did not sufficiently monitor Boeing and thus could not guarantee the safety of travellers.
Before the two disasters, the 737 MAX was one of American Boeing’s best-selling aircraft. American airlines are now preparing for the first commercial flights with the aircraft since the lifting of the flight ban. The deliveries of copies that had already been ordered are now also slowly starting up again.
