The Kremlin said that Ukraine had turned away from negotiations to end the war. According to the TASS news agency, Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko said that Kyiv had no response to a proposal by the Russian government for a peace settlement.
According to him, there are no more negotiations at all. But unfortunately, Ukraine has not yet responded to this.
The two belligerent countries have been trying to reach a peace agreement since shortly after the Russian invasion on February 24 by remaining in talks. Both countries have toned down or abandoned previously set targets.
But on several essential points, they have not come closer together.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz had a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky on Tuesday. Both have stressed that a negotiated solution can only be achieved if the fighting stops and troops are withdrawn.
