Overloaded Moldova Gets Extra Humanitarian Aid From EU

Moldova is receiving extra help from the European Union to receive refugees from neighbouring Ukraine. The EU is setting up a warehouse with tents and blankets in the Moldovan capital.

More than 100,000 Ukrainians fleeing the Russian war against their country reside in Europe’s poorest country. The vast majority of them are women and children.

The warehouse in Chisinau will be filled with 1,200 tents and 4,000 blankets with which aid organizations can help refugees, the European Commission reports. A ‘humanitarian airlift brings them in’. All costs are for the account of Brussels.

The EU has previously allocated 8 million euros for humanitarian aid to Moldova. This was intended for emergency aid at the border, reception centres, and to give arrived refugees some money for their basic necessities. EU countries have also sent relief supplies and money themselves, and the European emergency storage facility for medicines has also been drawn, among others.
