Just over half of the German population has had at least one corona jab. Health Minister Jens Spahn also reports that 29.6 percent of the population has had all the necessary shots and is therefore maximally protected against Covid-19.
The number of coronavirus infections is falling as more and more people have been vaccinated. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the German equivalent of the RIVM, reported on Friday that 1076 new infections had been registered in 24 hours.
A week earlier, 2,440 cases were reported. The reproduction number is now 0.72. That means that 100 people infect 72 others, and therefore fewer and fewer infections will occur.
Due to the decrease in the number of infections, Germany has ended several corona restrictions. Health authorities warn against too rapid relaxation because of the Delta variant of the virus. Germany is increasingly concerned about the mutation that first appeared in India earlier this year.
The Delta variant seems to be the cause of an increase in the number of infections in England. That is why the latest relaxation of the lockdown has been postponed there. Unlike England, the Delta variant is not dominant in Germany.
However, there seems to be an increase. The RKI reports that the Delta variant was diagnosed in 6.2 percent of all infected persons in the first week of June. A week earlier, it was 3.7 percent.
