Germany Pushes for European Decision on Russians Fleeing Mobilization

Germany wants a European consensus on how to deal with Russians who move to EU countries to flee mobilization. Steffen Hebestreit, a spokesman for the German government, said on Friday.

The fact that Russians are trying to evade military service, Hebestreit described as a “good sign”. However, he added that it is time to find “a workable solution” at the EU level.

For the time being, there are no special asylum procedures or the provision of humanitarian visas. In our country, the cabinet of State Secretary for Asylum and Migration Nicole de Moor (CD&V) states that normal asylum procedures also apply to Russians.

After the announcement of a partial mobilization by Russian President Vladimir Putin, many Russians are trying to flee the country. In Finland, the number of Russians crossing the border has doubled. However, the country wants to tighten the entry conditions.

Other EU member states, such as Poland and the Baltic States, have introduced a ban on the entry of Russians.
