German prosecutors are investigating three Deutsche Bahn employees over a fatal train accident in the state of Bavaria. They are suspected of wrongful death. No further information has been disclosed.
A spokesman for Deutsche Bahn, both rail operator and carrier, said that the company is cooperating in the investigation into the accident.
A regional train derailed just north of Garmisch-Partenkirchen on Friday, leaving five dead and about 40 injured. One of the passengers is still in critical condition. There were a total of 140 passengers on board the train, many of whom were students.
It is unknown how the accident could have happened. Initial research results show that the train was not speeding. On Monday it was announced that it is being examined whether the vehicle derailed due to a technical defect or poor infrastructure.
Repair work was scheduled to take place in June and July on the section of track where the accident took place.
