China Launches Secret Satellite

China successfully launched a satellite on Monday, the official Xinhua news agency reported.

A Long March-2D departed from the Taiyuan spaceport in the northern province of Shanxi at 03:35 a.m. Belgian time. The two-stage launcher launched the entrained satellite into its planned orbit.

It concerned the Shiyan-13. The Chinese state media did not provide more information.

According to spacenews.com, the Shiyans are said to be test satellites, the first of which was launched in 2004. The sequence numbers are often not consecutive. China is now said to have more than ten Shiyan satellites in space.

Beijing wants to make more than 40 launches this year, after 48 last year. Six of the planned launches are to the modular space station that China is building.
