Twitter Ends Fleets Function for Temporary Messages Again

Messaging service Twitter will pull the plug on Fleets on August 8. With which you can post temporary stories, the gadget was only introduced eight months ago, but it attracted too few users.

Fleets are similar to what made Snapchat popular and what Facebook and Instagram already offer: the ability to post messages with images, which go off the air after 24 hours.

Twitter hoped Fleets would encourage more people to post. However, most users turned out to be already active on Twitter. Thus, advertising via Fleets also did not lead to the desired increase in revenue.

The American company is now going to test options that encourage users to post more photos and videos.
