Serena Williams left the press conference in tears after her defeat against Naomi Osaka (3-6 4-6) in the semifinals of the Australian Open.
The 39-year-old American again failed to take her 24th grand slam title.
“I could have been in favour of 5-0, but I made so many mistakes that…”, Williams was busy answering a question. She didn’t finish her answer and got emotional. When Williams was next asked if she knew why her error rate was so high, she answered briefly. “I don’t know, and it’s over.”
When leaving the track, Williams put a hand on her heart as he waved to the audience. As if she were saying goodbye. “I do not know. If I say goodbye one day, I won’t tell anyone,” said Williams.
Williams has been waiting for a new grand slam title for over four years.
