American Companies are Temporarily Suspending Political Donations

Many major US companies, such as Citigroup and JPMorgan Chase banks, plan to suspend or temporarily review their political donations temporarily.

They do that after storming the Capitol last week.

Citigroup does not want to transfer money in the current quarter. “We will not support candidates who do not respect the rule of law,” the company said in a statement to employees.

The bank admitted to donating $ 1,000 in 2019 to the election campaign of Josh Hawley, a Missouri Republican who endorsed Donald Trump’s electoral fraud claims and cheered protesters at the parliament building with a raised fist.

JPMorgan, the largest US bank, wants to end support for Republicans and Democrats for at least six months.

Earlier, hotel group Marriott International announced that it is suspending all donations to Republican senators who refused to approve the election result and thus the appointment of Joe Biden as president.

Marriott has ties to Mitt Romney, a Utah Republican who has long been critical of Trump.
