The Omicron variant of the coronavirus has also surfaced in Austria. The infected person has tested positive after a trip to South Africa, according to authorities in Tyrol.
According to Austrian media, this is someone who has been fully vaccinated and shows no further symptoms.
The Alpine country has already struggled with the fight against the coronavirus. As a result, the authorities were forced to reintroduce a strict lockdown this month. Residents, therefore, need a valid reason to leave their homes.
Next year, there will also be a vaccination obligation for Austrians, who risk a fine if they do not have themselves vaccinated against the coronavirus.
