Russian Climate Envoy Chubays Quits and Leaves Russia

According to sources, Russian climate envoy Anatoly Chubais has resigned and left the country. Chubais is ultimately unable to support President Vladimir Putin due to the bloody invasion of Ukraine.

However, he is so far the highest-ranking official to step down from Putin’s ranks following the raid a month ago.

Chubais, 66, was one of the architects of the sweeping economic reforms that followed the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. He became one of the most hated politicians at the time for his hasty privatizations. These were released as ‘shock therapy’ on the stalled planned economy.

A relatively small group of entrepreneurs benefited from this while the population was languishing. The group is made up of the oligarchs on whom Putin’s government relies.

Putin got his first important job in the Kremlin from Chubays. Chubays was a top executive in Russian state-owned companies for many years and was appointed by Putin as a climate envoy and adviser last year.
