German Tourism in August at Pre-Corona Levels

German Tourism in August at Pre-Corona Levels

Tourists managed to find Germany just as well in August as before the corona crisis. It was the first time that tourist levels in 2019 had been surpassed in a month, the German statistics agency Destatis calculated.

German hotels, inns and bed & breakfasts registered 58.2 million overnight stays in August. That was 0.6 percent more than in the same month in 2019. All German federal states have at least part of the summer holidays in August.

The vast majority of those nights were spent by Germans who were on holiday in their own country. Foreigners accounted for 8.9 million overnight stays.

Although that was much more than a year earlier, in August 2019, there were still 17.5 percent more overnight stays from foreign tourists.
