Meta, the parent company of Facebook, faces a billion-dollar claim in Great Britain due to the data collection practices at the social network. The claim would amount to more than 2.3 billion pounds.
The claim against the US company alleges that Facebook abused its dominant position in the market to force UK users to agree to aggressive data collection practices.
In return, users received only free access to the social network and no financial compensation whatsoever, while Facebook made billions from users’ data.
The claim is made for Facebook’s 44 million users in the UK and covers the period from October 2015 to December 2019.
